VANCOUVER – Change is coming for drivers who use the southbound Interstate 205 off-ramp to Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard in east Vancouver.

Beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday, June 11, a new extended and separated off-ramp that runs parallel to the interstate will open to traffic, and drivers will exit the highway nearly a mile sooner than they did before.

"If you're southbound on I-205 and miss the new Mill Plain Boulevard exit, you won't be able to turn around until you reach State Route 14," said Project Engineer Lori Figone. "Not all navigation systems will be updated immediately with the new off-ramp configuration, so drivers should keep an eye out for the new highway exit signs."

The new longer off-ramp will help relieve weaving and reduce backups on the interstate and improve safety for the more than 15,000 drivers who use it each day.

Shifting drivers onto the new exit ramp

WSDOT's contractor, Cascade Bridge, LLC, will close two lanes of southbound I-205 between SR 500 and SR 14 from 9 p.m. Friday, June 10, to 7 a.m. Saturday, June 11. The existing Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard off- ramp will also close from midnight to 5 a.m. the same night.

The permanent traffic shift onto the new ramp is another step forward in building the I-205-Mill Plain Interchange to Northeast 18th Street project.

The $40.6 million project is on track for completion this year. The work adds a half-diamond interchange, with an off-ramp allowing northbound I-205 traffic to exit onto Northeast 18th Street and a new on-ramp from Northeast 18th Street directly onto southbound I-205.
