Tom Curran is joining the Washington State Department of Transportation’s aviation team as the program manager for the upcoming Airport Investment Study.

Curran brings more than 30 years of aviation experience to the project, including a 26-year career as a U.S. Air Force pilot and senior officer, a consultant on the State of Alaska’s aviation system plan, an aviation safety instructor for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and, most recently, the aerospace grant coordinator at Clover Park Technical College.

“We are thrilled to bring someone on board with Tom’s aviation experience and knowledge to take on this project,” said Tristan Atkins, WSDOT director of aviation. “His proven leadership will help make this important study a success.”

Curran will start in his new position on May 1.

The airport investment study will kick off this spring with stakeholder meetings and conclude with the publication of a comprehensive report for future legislative sessions. The study will evaluate the need for preservation and safety projects at the state’s 136 public-use airports.
