Construction continues through October
ARLINGTON – Though it’s still under construction, a new roundabout is now open at the intersection of State Route 9 and State Route 531, just south of Arlington. Orange barrels are guiding drivers through the roundabout while crews finish building it.
On Wednesday night, Oct. 3, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation pulled down the traffic signal, adjusted the barrels and shifted traffic into the roundabout.
“We’ve still got a few things left to finish before we’re completely done and out of the way of drivers,” said Engineering Manager Jay Drye. “It’s always a challenge trying to keep the intersection open to traffic while transforming it into a roundabout. But we’re nearly there – just several more weeks of work left.”
Construction will continue for the next several weeks as crews finish building the center island and pave splitter islands on the approaches to the roundabout. Drivers can expect construction, lane shifts and minor delays to continue through October as crews finish the project.
