ARLINGTON – Airport sponsors interested in receiving state funding for airport improvements can now submit applications for the last round of state Airport Aid grants this biennium.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Aviation Division anticipates awarding up to $1 million in grants to qualifying airports for needed improvements.

Each year, WSDOT provides crucial financial assistance to many of the state’s 135 public airports through its Airport Aid Grant Program. WSDOT’s Airport Aid Grant Program funds projects in the areas of pavement, safety, maintenance, security, and planning.

Applications must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. March 30, 2012. Qualifying projects must be targeted for completion on or before June 30, 2013. Applications are accepted from any municipality or federally recognized tribe that owns an open, public-use airport in Washington state.

To apply, airport sponsors can fill out the Airport Aid Grant Application (pdf 279 kb). Since a signature is required, sponsors must print, sign and mail the form along with supporting documentation.

WSDOT will announce grant award recipients the week of June 11, 2012. The maximum amount WSDOT can award to an airport sponsor for a single grant is $250,000.

As a condition for grant eligibility, airport sponsors are required to have completed their annual review and updated their information on the Airport Information System database by the end of the previous calendar year.

The next grant cycle will begin in July 2013. More information on the Airport Aid Grant Program is available at:
