Construction closes airport runway Oct. 17- Nov. 4; more closures anticipated through January 2012

WINTHROP – Pilots and passengers should prepare for a series of runway closures at Methow Valley State Airport as crews begin construction of several projects to improve safety at the airport.

The first runway closure at Methow is scheduled from 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, through 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4. Airport users can anticipate future tentative closures through January 2012. Closure dates are weather dependent and subject to change. Pilots should check Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS) at 800-WX-BRIEF to verify closure information.

The safety projects at Methow airport include lighting upgrades, obstruction surveying, obstruction removal, perimeter fencing, and runway safety area grading. The recently completed Methow Valley State Airport Layout Plan laid the groundwork for identifying these safety improvements at the airport.

Methow is one of 17 airports operated by the Washington State Department of Transportation, and is the only state-operated airport eligible for federal funds. A majority of the $972,750 project is being funded through a Federal Aviation Administration grant.
