The sidewalk on the SR 26 West Wye Bridge across the North Fork of the Palouse River has been closed temporarily by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

The sidewalk on the nearby US 195 bridge, about a block away, is available for pedestrians.

WSDOT bridge inspectors first noticed cracks in the sidewalk last month during an inspection. Further investigation discovered that the cantilevered structure supporting a segment of the sidewalk is pulling away from the main bridge structure. WSDOT engineers are reviewing repair options.

Meanwhile, the main bridge structure carrying vehicular traffic is in good condition, with no restrictions.
