ARLINGTON – Airports, local jurisdictions and decision-makers now have access to an updated resource to aid in land-use-compatibility planning near airports. The updated Airport and Compatible Land-Use Program Guidebook is available at:

http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/aviation/Planning/ACLUguide.htm

The updated guidebook does not change land-use requirements for towns, cities and counties. Instead, it incorporates new, interactive tools and resources for navigating through the sometimes challenging airport land-use-planning process.

The guidebook includes new features such as:

  • Graphics and visual aids to communicate land-use practices.
  • A user-friendly six-step planning process to encourage informed decision-making.
  • Checklists, worksheets and a tool kit to assist in compatibility planning.

Effective and proactive land-use planning is critical for protecting airports and communities against incompatible development. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Aviation program provides technical assistance to airports and local decision-makers to encourage informed and practical land-use-compatibility choices.
