Road to close Monday morning, Oct. 25

MT. BAKER – This is the last weekend to take a drive up the road to Artist Point at Mt. Baker. The road to Artist Point will close early Monday morning, Oct. 25.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will close the last three miles of Mount Baker Highway (SR 542) past the ski area because forecasts are projecting up to a foot of snow starting Sunday night.

Last year, the road closed on Sept. 29. The last time the road was open this late in the year was in 2006, when it stayed open until Oct. 24.

WSDOT opened the road on July 30 this year. Pictures of Artist Point are available on WSDOT’s Flickr page.

The road to Artist Point is typically buried under snow and closed October through July. For more information about Artist Point and to see the opening and closing history, visit the website.
