PE ELL – Drivers on State Route 6 west of Chehalis will enjoy a smoother, safer drive now that the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) finished resurfacing 16 miles of highway between Interstate 5 and Pe Ell.
The $3.1 million SR 6 – Pe Ell to I-5 Paving and Chip Seal project paved SR 6 through the city of Pe Ell, and paved and chip sealed the most damaged sections of highway between Pe Ell and I-5. Chip sealing applies a mixture of fine gravel and asphalt to the road surface to repair pavement damage and extend the life of the roadway.
This project also upgraded pedestrian curb ramps to current Americans with Disability Act standards in Pe Ell and at the I-5/SR 6 junction. Crews installed new guardrail and signs, and laid fresh striping and reflective pavement markers along the resurfaced highway.
This and other highway preservation projects help keep the roadway safe for drivers on Washington State’s system of more than 7,000 centerline miles of highways and 3,400 bridges and ramps.
