VANCOUVER – Contractor crews on a Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) paving project will remove 1,200 feet of recently paved asphalt on State Route 14 after it failed to meet standards. The asphalt will be removed and replaced at no cost to taxpayers.
Through routine quality-control testing, WSDOT inspectors identified that the new asphalt on eastbound SR 14 just east of I-5 needs to be removed and repaved because it does not meet WSDOT density and compaction standards.
The paving work is part of the ongoing Recovery Act funded SR 14 – I-5 to SE 164th Ave. Interchange paving project.
Crews will close the left lane of eastbound SR 14 tonight at 10 p.m. to grind out the substandard asphalt and repave this short section of the left lane. The work is scheduled to be completed by 7 a.m. Friday.
The project’s schedule is not affected by these repairs, and work is still on track to be complete in October.
Washington State is administering the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act investments with an unprecedented level of transparency and accountability. Gov. Gregoire created a Web site, www.recovery.wa.gov, so every Washingtonian can see where tax dollars are going and hold government accountable for the results.
