POULSBO – Fish will swim more freely in Bjorgen and Lemolo creeks near Poulsbo, but travelers will see slight delays on SR 305 this week as tree felling operations mark the beginning of a culvert improvement project.
WSDOT and Frank Coluccio Construction Co. began the $3.8 million project to improve fish passage Monday, July 12. Work, which will occur from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, is scheduled to end in October.
The majority of roadway impacts are expected during the first week as crews fell trees and clear brush to build an access road to the work zone – about 40 feet below the state route. Drivers can expect up to 15-minute delays during these operations.
Once installation of the new 10- and 12-foot diameter culverts begins in two to three weeks, drivers can expect minimal delays from trucks exiting and entering SR 305.
“It’s important that people realize that the vast majority of work will be done below SR 305 and, aside from a few trucks entering and leaving the roadway, won’t affect traffic much,” said project engineer Jerry Moore.
The project will improve fish passage for salmon in Liberty Bay and reduce erosion.
