BURLINGTON – Construction at the I-5/Chuckanut Drive interchange in Burlington will move into the roadway next week, closing lanes and ramps throughout July while crews build a new roundabout at the Josh Wilson Road intersection.

Starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, crews will close Chuckanut Drive on the west side of the interchange, between Josh Wilson Road and the Washington State Patrol driveway, and access to and from Josh Wilson Road.

Then on Sunday, July 18, crews will also close the southbound I-5 on- and off-ramps.

Crews expect to reopen all roads and ramps and the new single-lane roundabout on July 29.

Detour signs will primarily direct drivers to the Cook Road interchange just to the north.

The roundabout will tie the I-5 ramps and Josh Wilson Road into one intersection, helping improve safety and traffic flow at the interchange.

Also, as part of this project, crews will improve the northbound I-5 on- and off-ramps by relocating them south of the interchange, and will build a single-lane roundabout at the Old Highway 99 intersection.

This $4.8 million construction project is primarily funded by the 2005 Transportation Partnership Funding Package.
