Local detour routes will be available during nighttime closures
VANCOUVER – Paving work will close NE Chkalov Drive between NE 112th Avenue and SE Mill Plain Boulevard on the nights of Monday Oct. 5th and Tuesday Oct. 6th. Local detour routes will be available during the closures, which last from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. Drivers will also encounter a right lane closure on westbound Mill Plain Boulevard.
These closures are necessary for crews to grind out deteriorating pavement and repave the roadway. Three detours will be available during the closures:
- Main detour route – Drivers may use SE 136th Avenue and NE 18th Street to access NE 112th Avenue. This route will be signed to direct motorists around the closure area.
- Local residents and business detour route – Drivers may use NE 120th Avenue to NE 118th Avenue, and NE 9th Avenue to access NE 112th Avenue. This route will be signed to direct motorists around the closure area.
- Local apartment residents and hotel detour route – Drivers may use NE 117th Avenue to NE 115th Avenue to access NE 112th Avenue.
As a fourth option, drivers may consider using I-205 northbound to SR 500 eastbound, accessing NE 112th Avenue north of the closure.
WSDOT will continue to inform the public of these traffic impacts before each paving operation begins. Advanced warning signs will be posted and message boards will be utilized during these closures to inform drivers of alternate routes available. Drivers are asked to please pay attention to the warning signs. Drivers are also reminded that all traffic fines are doubled within a construction work zone when workers are present (RCW 46.61.527).
Drivers should note that paving work is a highly weather-sensitive activity. Work may be cancelled or rescheduled if conditions warrant.
This work is part of the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) I-205 – Mill Plain Exit – 112th Connector project, a $26 million project that provides drivers with a direct connection to NE 112th Avenue from northbound on I-205 without having to navigate through traffic at Mill Plain Boulevard. Construction began June 2008 on this partnership project between WSDOT and the City of Vancouver. The new bridge is expected to open to traffic this fall.
