LYNDEN – WSDOT crews building a new roundabout near Lynden will close access to SR 539 from SR 544 (E. Pole Road) and West Pole Road beginning Sunday night, July 26. The closure is expected to last for three weeks.
The closure will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 26. Crews will complete the roundabout and restore access to SR 539 (Guide Meridian) by 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16.
North- and southbound drivers on the Guide Meridian will not be affected by the closure. Crews will close access to E. Pole Road and W. Pole Road at the Guide Meridian intersection. Drivers who need to access E. Pole or W. Pole roads can follow posted detour routes on Smith and Laurel roads.
People can also follow roundabout construction by viewing our Pole Road traffic camera:

The three-week closure will expedite construction on the new roundabout. Crews will be able to build and open the roundabout to traffic prior to the start of the Northwest Washington Fair in Lynden, which begins Monday, Aug. 17.
WSDOT engineers coordinated the intersection closure with public works officials from Whatcom County to ensure that drivers will be able to detour around the area using Hannegan Road. Immediately following the WSDOT closure, Whatcom County will close a section of Hannegan Road to rebuild a bridge, and will detour drivers around the area using the roundabout at the SR 539/SR 544 intersection.
