ARLINGTON – Next week crews will bring the first of three paving projects on I-5 in Snohomish County to a close with permanent striping on newly-repaved I-5 in Arlington . At the same time crews will start work on two more projects to repave about 13 miles of northbound I-5 near Lynnwood and near Everett .

“We’re pleased to finish up our work in Arlington this early in the season,” said Janice Fahning, WSDOT project engineer. “With two more paving projects starting up, we want to thank drivers for their continuing patience. These projects will help to preserve the freeway and give drivers a smoother ride on I-5 in Snohomish County .”

Cemex Pacific Holdings crews began work on I-5 in Arlington on May 11. They repaved nearly four miles of southbound I-5 between SR 531 and the Stillaguamish River Bridge , as well as one mile of northbound I-5. They also repaved the southbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at SR 530 and the Smokey Point rest areas along both directions of I-5. Crews expect to wrap up permanent striping early next week.

Drivers should plan for 13 miles of paving work on northbound I-5

On Monday night, June 22, Cemex crews will begin a second paving project on I-5 in Snohomish County , repaving northbound I-5 between the Snohomish River Bridge in Everett and the Ebey Slough Bridge near Marysville.

At the same time Granite Northwest crews will be starting work on the third project, repaving more than nine miles of northbound I-5 between 52nd Avenue West in Lynnwood and SR 526 just south of Everett . Crews will also repave one mile of SR 525 just north of Lynnwood and the on- and off-ramps at 44th Avenue West, SR 525, I-405 and SR 526.

All together crews working on these projects will repave nearly 13 miles of northbound I-5 in Snohomish County . This new pavement will increase traction and safety for drivers, but during construction drivers should plan ahead for short back-ups and delays. Drivers should also be prepared for uneven driving surfaces during construction as crews grind down the roadway before laying new pavement.

“We want to remind drivers to use caution and stay alert through these lengthy work zones,” said Fahning. “Grinding and paving are moving operations, so drivers should be prepared for lane configurations to change from night to night.”

Drivers can expect overnight lane and ramp closures on northbound I-5 Monday through Thursday nights, as well as some weekend ramp closures. Crews are scheduled to finish both projects this fall.
