SEATTLE – Drivers heading to downtown Seattle and Capitol Hill should prepare for the reversible ramp from Pike and Pine streets to the Interstate 5 express lanes to be closed for up to a year beginning at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10.

Crews working for Sound Transit will close the ramp for up to a year as they prepare the ground beneath I-5 to make way for the tunnel boring machine they will use to construct the 3.15-mile light rail tunnel extension between downtown Seattle and the University of Washington.

During the closure drivers can exit the I-5 express lanes at Stewart Street and enter the I-5 express lanes at Howell Street. Buses that use the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel will not be effected by the closure.

Crews will also close the right lane of southbound I-5 between Howell Street and Union Street at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10 to place barriers around the work zone. The lane will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.
