SEATTLE –Work to strengthen the Interstate 90 bridges over I-5 in Seattle will require overnight lane and ramp closures this week.
Crews will close three of four lanes on southbound I-5 at I-90 nightly from Tuesday, May 12 through Thursday, May 14 to place barrier and restripe the freeway. The work will shift traffic slightly to the west to create room for crews to work on the columns that support the I-90 bridges over I-5. All lanes will reopen by 5 each following morning.
Also, at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, and Thursday, May 14, crews will close the westbound I-90 off-ramp to Fourth Avenue S. The ramp will reopen at 5 each following morning. During the closure traffic will be detoured to Fourth Avenue S. using the southbound I-5 exit to S. Forest Street.
Drivers should expect overnight lane and ramp closures through June 2010 at the I-90/I-5 interchange for the project. Drivers can keep up-to-date on the latest closure information at www.wsdot.wa.gov/Northwest/King/Construction. For more project information, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i90/i5to12thseismic.
The project is part of WSDOT’s seismic retrofit program in which crews are strengthening more than 900 bridges and structures across the state to better withstand earthquakes. Visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Bridge/Reporting/SeismicRetrofitProgram for more information.
