SEATTLE – It’s day two of the weekend long lane closures on southbound Interstate 5 through downtown Seattle, and WSDOT contractor crews continue to make progress replacing 41 broken concrete panels. Crews remain on target to open all southbound lanes to traffic by 5 a.m., Monday, Feb. 16.

Traffic

Traffic is light and flowing smoothly through the construction zone. We expect the congestion to to pick up over the next several hours. Please factor delays into your travel times today.

We want to remind drivers that Seattle is open for business. On Saturday, it took drivers an average of 30 to 60 minutes to get through the work zone. Drivers can use the southbound I-5 express lanes to get into Seattle all weekend. There are two exits for HOV drivers (5th/Columbia and Pike/Pine) and two exits for all drivers (Stewart Street and Mercer Street). Aurora Avenue (SR 99) also a great alternate route to downtown Seattle.

Progress on the job

Last night, crews finished replacing 41 broken concrete panels with fresh concrete. Crews must now wait for the concrete that makes up the new panels to cure. In the meantime, crews will be busy filling potholes on other less damaged concrete panels.
