FALL CITY – Last week's flooding badly damaged SR 202 near Fall City, but with the help of a swift contractor working all-out, crews have rebuilt, repaved and repainted the highway and opened it for traffic.
Floodwaters had washed out a 100-foot section of the road east of Fall City between SR 203 and 356th Avenue SE. Crews worked 10-hour shifts pumping out water, breaking up the damaged asphalt and concrete and recycling it to rebuild the roadbed. Crews used about 3,000 cubic yards of dirt and rocks to rebuild the roadbed. Images of the damage can be viewed on our Flickr site: www.flickr.com/photos/wsdot/sets/72157612487992511/.
"Getting this key road quickly repaired and reopened to traffic was important to this community," state Secretary of Transportation Paula Hammond said. "We're pleased with how quickly our contractors and crews rebuilt and repaved the road." KLB Construction was hired for the work.
There's still a little work to be done. On Friday, crews were closing one of the lanes of the road to wrap up repairs to guardrails and the shoulders of the road. Flaggers are directing traffic in the open lane until the work is complete.
Emergency federal funding will be sought to cover the costs of the repair work, which is estimated to be $350,000.
