WENATCHEE - WSDOT’s newest traffic camera is now available to those who want to know before they go.
A view to the south of the North Wenatchee Avenue (SR 285) Wenatchee River Bridges is available at www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/wenatchee/default.aspx?cam=5016
It’s also available on the North Central Region camera page: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Regions/NorthCentral/Camera.htm
The new camera is located at the north end of the SR 285 Northbound Wenatchee River Bridge. It provides a southward view of the bridge deck and roadway toward Horse Lake Road. This brings to seven, the number of Wenatchee traffic cameras available on the internet.
The $13,000 camera system was paid for from a federal traveler information grant. The cameras are available on the Internet providing a current view of traffic volume and road conditions so commuters, travelers and freight shippers can make better route selection choices, which improves highway operations.
WSDOT’s camera system is used by maintenance staff to evaluate conditions and determine how to most efficiently dispatch crews and equipment during weather events. WSDOT and the Washington State Patrol use the cameras to plan traffic control when collisions occur. Traffic engineers also use the cameras to identify how drivers deal with highway features such as lane changes to exits and speed limits, under different volume, weather and light conditions.
