Burley Olalla Road to and from State Route 16 remains open until Monday, Aug. 4.
While the project that builds the new interchange begins this week, WSDOT plans to keep the construction work off the road to allow drivers continued use of the roadway.
The contractor has determined they can move further ahead in the project than originally thought while still keeping Burley Olalla Road open to traffic.
"We realize the closure of Burley Olalla Road will be a big inconvenience for local traffic, thus we want to keep the road open as along as possible while still staying on-schedule with our work plan," said Brenden Clarke, WSDOT Project Engineer. "Keeping the road open longer will help to minimize the impact of this closure, even if it is only 10 fewer days the road is closed."
Pushing back the closure date means those attending the Burley Community Fair, being held Saturday Aug. 2, in Burley will be able to use the road.
