TACOMA – WSDOT will open the Murray Morgan Bridge this Thursday for Tall Ships Tacoma 2008. Pedestrians and bicyclists will not be able to use the bridge during this time.
The span will remain in the open position for five days, the duration of the festival. Crews open the bridge 7:30 a.m., Thursday, July 3, until 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 8.
Leaving the bridge open allows ships to navigate the Thea Foss Waterway freely, instead of opening repeatedly for individual vessels.
The 95-year-old bridge closed to vehicular traffic in October 2007. An average of 40 pedestrians cross the 1,748-foot-long span daily.
