OLYMPIA – The Washington State Transportation Commission will hold its meeting in Moses Lake next week to learn more about what’s working and what’s not for transportation in and around north central Washington. Commission members will join city, county, state, business and agricultural representatives on Tuesday, June 17, at Big Bend Community College, 7662 Chanute Street NE, in Moses Lake, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a community outreach meeting and the public is invited to attend.

The meeting will consist of a series of panel discussions and short presentations about current activities, future plans and needs for transportation at the local, regional and state level. Representatives from the cities of Moses Lake and Othello, along with Grant, Lincoln and Kittitas counties, will share with the Commissioners their perspective of local transportation challenges and priorities. On the state level, Region Administrator Don Senn from the Washington State Department of Transportation’s North Central Region will describe state transportation projects in the area.

At 1 p.m., the Commission will hear a presentation regarding biofuels in Washington. Next on the agenda, a panel representing the region’s agriculture industry will talk about transportation as it relates to the future of farming. Following, business and economic development officials will hold a roundtable discussion regarding regional transportation projects and opportunities. A public comment period is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to share their views and concerns about transportation with Commission members.

The Washington State Transportation Commission holds several meetings throughout the state each year to gain insight from local government, industry and citizens about transportation issues that affect their communities and region. This information helps the Commission to develop and implement a vision for transportation that reflects the policies, plans and priorities of the people of the State of Washington.
