SEATTLE – A mudslide has closed the right westbound lane of State Route 900 at NE Park Drive in Renton. Crews expect to have the lane open by this Friday at 12:00 noon. On Wednesday night, a rain squall moved through the area and flooded a WSDOT pumping station at a construction site. The floodwater sent debris onto the roadway and eroded two to four feet of soil underneath the asphalt, undermining its stability.

Currently, traffic is limited to one lane in each direction. Crews will spend much of the day cleaning the debris off of the road. The debris covers an area of approximately 300 feet.

To get around the closure drivers should:

• head north on Edmonds Avenue
• then head east on NE 12th Street
• head north on Union Avenue and return to SR 900

The flood took out nearly 50 feet of newly installed pipe as part of the SR 900 to I-405 drainage replacement project. Crews expect to replace the pipe today and will continue to monitor the hillside for future slides.
