RIDGEFIELD – The northbound Gee Creek Safety Rest Area on I-5 in Clark County will remain closed until noon on Friday, May 2 due to weather-dependent construction work. The southbound rest area will remain open to travelers.

The closure is necessary so that WSDOT crews can rebuild the northbound rest area ramps and adjust the ramp’s alignment in conjunction with the nearby SR 502 Interchange Project.

The rest areas were originally closed in late April for annual maintenance. Construction on the ramp was planned during the maintenance closure, but as the work is weather-dependent, construction was delayed until drier conditions prevailed.

The rest areas are located on I-5 northbound and southbound just north of Exit 9 (SR 502 East/NE 179th Street/Battle Ground). For northbound motorists, the next safety rest area after Gee Creek is the Toutle River Safety Rest Area, located near Exit 52 (Toutle Park Road/Barnes Drive) in Cowlitz County.
