CASTLE ROCK – The Toutle River Safety Rest Areas on I-5 in Cowlitz County will be closed Monday, April 14 through Wednesday, April 16, announced the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The rest areas are located on I-5 northbound and southbound just north of Castle Rock.

Both the northbound and southbound Toutle River Safety Rest Areas will be closed beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Monday and will remain closed through 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16. The closures are necessary so WSDOT crews can conduct annual maintenance work at the rest areas. The blue signs along I-5 alerting motorists to the Toutle River Safety Rest Areas will have “Closed” signs put over them during the closure, and the on ramps to the rest areas will be blocked with orange cones.

For southbound motorists, the next safety rest area after Toutle River is the Gee Greek Rest Area, in Clark County. For northbound motorists, the next safety rest area after Toutle River is the Scatter Creek Safety Rest Area, in Thurston County.
