CHEHALIS – Beginning the evening of Friday, February 29, the speed limit returned to 60 mph on I-5 near the Rush Road (milepost 72) to 13th Street (milepost 77) work zone, announced the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

The speed limit was reduced in September 2007 to 50 mph in the work zone limits as construction crews worked in the median to widen this section of I-5. Work in the median required single lane closures and narrower lanes, which necessitated the speed limit revision.

Through this project, I-5 from the Rush Road interchange to the 13th Street interchange in Lewis County will be a concrete barrier-divided interstate with three lanes in each direction (six lanes total). In addition, access to the Chehalis Industrial Park will be improved as a result of building a new interchange at LaBree Road. Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2009.

For more information about the I-5, Rush Road to 13th Street Project, please contact WSDOT’s Chehalis Area Engineering Office by phone at (866) 713-2412, by e-mail swChehalis@wsdot.wa.gov or visit the project page at: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/I5/RushRd13thSt.

Advance warning signs will be placed ahead of the construction area, and motorists are asked to observe and adhere to the posted speed limits when driving through the work zone. Motorists are also reminded that all traffic fines are doubled within a construction work zone when workers are present (RCW 46.61.527).
