TOUCHET – The multipurpose room at the Touchet School was packed with residents from Touchet, Walla Walla and surrounding areas interested in WSDOT’s next steps to four-laning US Highway 12.

WSDOT joined forces with the Port of Walla Walla and the US Highway 12 Coalition to provide information and listen to residents at an open house on Wednesday, January 9, 2007. The open house focused on the proposed alignment from Boise White Paper to Walla Walla. It also provided information about the Frenchtown Vicinity to Walla Walla (Phase 6) construction project and the proposed interchange from US 12/SR 124 intersection at Burbank.

“I was very pleased with the turnout,” said Kerry Grant, WSDOT Project Engineer. “We were able to answer everyone’s questions and listen to their concerns.”

More than 125 people came to the event to hear, view and discuss the latest information about the project. Engineers answered questions about where intersections would be on the proposed alignment and how residents would be able to access them.

WSDOT continues work on a corridor study for the section of US 12 between US 12/SR 730 intersection and the Frenchtown monument. The new highway will be constructed north of the existing US 12 highway, based on environmental impacts, accident history, traffic analysis, and right-of-way and access changes.
