Weather forecasts for Western Washington this weekend are great for skiers, not ideal for drivers. Snow, rain and freezing temperatures are on the menu through the weekend as a moist arctic storm front moves into the Pacific Northwest.

This means Puget Sound area drivers can expect some lowland snow and slick conditions on area highways.

WSDOT maintenance crews are treating the roadways with de-icer and will be working around the clock for the next several days to keep roads clear, traffic moving and drivers safe.

Crews have taken advantage of recent dry weather and pre-treated roads with de-icer over the past several days. While lowland snow accumulations this weekend are expected to be fairly light, crews will be out all weekend long, working to keep the roads safe and clear.

Heavy snow expected in the mountain passes

Drivers hitting the slopes this weekend should expect heavy snow, slick roads, high winds, poor visibility – and delays. If the snowy conditions materialize as expected in the mountain passes, drivers should expect that tire chains will be required.

Washington State Patrol troopers will be slowing traffic to check for chains on vehicles crossing Snoqualmie Pass and avalanche closures could cause delays over Snoqualmie and Stevens passes.
