Update: Tuesday, Jan. 22, 3:30 p.m.

Crews will close the ramp from northbound and southbound SR 9 to westbound SR 522 on Tuesday, Jan. 22 and Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Crews need one extra day to complete this work after engineers discovered a section of sunken pavement. They replaced the eight by 50 foot section today and plan to finish the paving work Wednesday.

WOODINVILLE – Crews are hoping for warm, dry weather this week as they prepare to close the ramp from southbound SR 9 to westbound SR 522 for paving.

Crews will close the ramp from southbound SR 9 to westbound SR 522 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16 and Thursday, Jan. 17. However, paving is a highly weather-sensitive activity and could be delayed by cold or wet weather. If crews are delayed, they will reschedule the closure for the next dry, warm weekday.

Drivers will follow a signed detour using SR 524, SR 9, SR 522 and Snohomish-Woodinville Road. Additionally, we will post updated information every morning by 9 a.m. on our project Web site (www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR9/sr522_212thst) and on our project hotline (425-489-5427). Drivers are encouraged to check these resources before heading to the area to find out if the ramp is opened or closed.

“The decision to close the ramp come right down to the wire,” said Project Engineer John Chi. “We want to give drivers the information as soon as we make the decision, so we hope they’ll take advantage of the project hotline and Web site.”

Although crews are only paving half of the ramp, they must close the entire ramp to keep drivers and workers safe. Once they complete work on one side of the ramp, crews will shift traffic and pave the other half of the ramp. This work will also require daytime ramp closures and will likely take place in late February.

This work is part of the SR 9 – SR 522 to 212th Street SE project to widen SR 9 from two lanes to a four lane divided highway between SR 522 and SR 524. We reached a major milestone on Nov. 4, 2007 when we opened two new lanes on SR 9 nearly six months ahead of schedule. Crews continue working to widen ramps, place permanent striping and complete drainage and other minor work.

This project is scheduled to be complete in spring 2008 and is funded with $40.5 million from the 2003 Legislative Funding Package. For more information, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR9/sr522_212thst.
