GIG HARBOR – The Washington State Department of Transportation is studying State Route 302 from the Key Peninsula Highway to SR 16 to evaluate the environmental impacts of widening the existing roadway or creating a new corridor to improve mobility and enhance motorist safety.

WSDOT is hosting two open houses in December to share the preliminary SR 302 corridor analysis. Join us to review and comment on the study purpose and need statement, range of alternatives, existing traffic analysis and environmental constraints information. To accommodate the community, WSDOT arranged different meeting dates and locations. Please attend the open house most convenient for you:

Project background and additional information

SR 302 is an important east-west link between Key Peninsula communities and Gig Harbor, Tacoma, and other parts of Washington. Regional population growth increased concerns about safety and congestion along this corridor.

Phase 1 of the study began in July 2007 and involves developing a range of alternatives including improvements to the existing SR 302 corridor or new corridor alignments. Phase 2 begins in January 2008, and will involve environmental scoping, an alternatives screening process, a comprehensive study of environmental impacts, and selection of a preferred alternative. WSDOT expects to complete both study phases in three years.
