Drivers should expect periodic delays for the next two weeks while crews remove dangerous trees along Mount Baker Highway (State Route 542) from 18 miles east of Glacier to the Mt. Baker Ski Area.

Crews will cut down 18 trees in varying stages of decay that pose an imminent threat of falling on the highway. Trees are mountain hemlock and Pacific silver fir, ranging from 40 feet to 100 feet tall, and 24 inches to 48 inches in diameter.

The work is dependent on weather and the number of available crew members who have specialized skills to cut down large trees.

Crews will intermittently close all lanes during daylight hours starting Wednesday, Nov. 7. They expect to finish by Wednesday, Nov. 21.
