SNOQUALMIE PASS – Drivers should expect 20-25 minute delays over I-90 Snoqualmie Pass about nine miles east of the summit near the snow shed on Tuesday, August 14 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is part of the preliminary work for the upcoming I-90 Snoqualmie Pass East – Hyak to Keechelus Dam Project. WSDOT geotechnical crews will be using heavy equipment to excavate part of the rock slopes above the lake. This work will involve moving several pieces of equipment up onto the rugged slope above Lake Keechelus.

WSDOT will slow traffic periodically to a reduced speed between Gold Creek and Price Creek interchanges as a precautionary measure to ensure drivers are not distracted. The majority of these slowdowns will occur between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Motorists should use caution, maintain the posted speed limit through the work zone, and are advised to watch message signs for specific traffic updates.

WSDOT will improve I-90 by providing a safer, more efficient six-lane freeway from Hyak to Keechelus Dam. In addition, the I-90 project will straighten roadway curves, replace old pavement, and reduce rock fall and avalanche hazards. Wildlife and watershed structures will improve habitat conditions. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2010. For more information on this project visit:
