Drivers heading out for the last summer weekend could see long delays on I-90 and US 2 mountain pass highways and I-5 during peak travel times Friday and Monday. The best times to travel are before noon Friday and before 10 a.m. or after 10 p.m. Monday.
Please refer to the charts below for a detailed description of traffic flow over the holiday weekend. Green indicates the best times to travel. Yellow and red indicate increasing traffic volumes and possible delays.
A good tip to avoid travel delay: If your plans allow, leave a day early (Thursday), and return a day later (Tuesday).

It's no surprise, holiday travelers using Snoqualmie Pass will see heavier traffic eastbound Friday and Saturday. The holiday will end with heavy traffic heading westbound on Monday, Sept. 3.
The best times to travel eastbound on US 2 over Labor Day weekend are Thursday, Friday mornings and Saturday afternoon. Monday is a heavy travel day for westbound US 2.

Drivers may experience a typical holiday weekend traffic increase on I-5 in the Puget Sound area, with peak travel times from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and early Saturday. Monday afternoon travel back into the Puget Sound area will peak just before noon and continue into late evening hours. WSDOT recommends avoiding travel on I-5 in the Puget Sound and the Portland/Vancouver metro area Friday evening and Monday afternoon. Historical data indicates both directions of I-5 south through Olympia and into Lewis County experience heavy congestion late Monday.
