EVERETT – South Everett drivers should expect multiple nighttime lane closures on Interstate 5 and day and nighttime lane closures on the 112th Street SE bridge over the freeway over the next couple of weeks. Crews are completing a long list of work items in preparation to switch traffic from the old 112th Street bridge onto the new bridge that is part of Sound Transit’s South Everett Freeway Station project.
For the next two weeks, crews will be closing I-5 lanes nightly to install brackets and utility conduits on the underside of the bridge. Tuesday through Thursday nights, July 31 through Aug. 2, crews will close two lanes of southbound I-5. The first southbound lane will close at 7 p.m. and the second at 8 p.m. All southbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each morning.
Monday through Thursday nights of the following week (Aug. 6-9), crews will close two northbound I-5 lanes. The first northbound lane will close at 8 p.m. and the second at 9 p.m. All northbound lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. each morning.
Drivers can also expect closures of the two-lane 112th Street SE bridge over I-5 this week as follows:
- Monday through Friday, July 30-Aug. 3: Expect daytime lane closures on the 112th Street SE bridge over I-5 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Flaggers will direct alternating eastbound and westbound traffic.
- Monday night, July 30: Crews will completely close the 112th Street SE bridge over I-5 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. to install conduit across the bridge. Signed detours will be in place.
- Tuesday night, July 31: Crews will close one lane of the 112th Street SE bridge over I-5 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to install drainage on the west side of the west bridge. Flaggers will direct alternating eastbound and westbound traffic.
WSDOT and Sound Transit have teamed up with the city of Everett to remove and replace the 112th Street SE bridges over I-5 with new, wider bridges as part of the South Everett Freeway Station project. The project, scheduled for completion in late 2008, will allow buses, carpools and vanpools to go directly from the I-5 HOV lanes to a new 400-stall park-and-ride lot in the I-5 median at 112th Street SE. A new access road from 112th Street SE will allow solo drivers to reach the park-and-ride.
