SEATTLE – WSDOT crews will close lanes on I-5 near 116th St in Marysville this weekend to paint the old, unused railroad crossing over I-5. The bridge has been covered in graffiti for years and has become an eyesore and magnet for taggers.

  • Crews will close the two left lanes of northbound I-5 from midnight to 8 a.m. Saturday morning, July 28. At 8 a.m. they will open the two left lanes and close the right lane and part of the 116th St. ramp. Those lanes will open by 10 a.m.
  • On Sunday, July 29, crews will close two southbound lanes from midnight to 8 a.m. and then move to the left lane from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

“The Tulalip tribe has agreed to close off access to the railroad bridge on both ends,” said Rick Rodda, WSDOT bridge engineer. “That will make keeping this bridge graffiti-free much easier.” Additionally, WSDOT will remove the catwalk that taggers have used as a platform for years.

We don’t expect significant overnight congestion, but drivers may experience slight delays as we get closer to 10 a.m. and local stores begin to open.

We rely on reports from drivers and past history to help prioritize where to send our graffiti crew. Drivers can report graffiti on or Web site at: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Maintenance/Graffiti/report.htm.
