KIRKLAND – Drivers should expect delays on northbound I-405 in Kirkland this weekend as crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation pave a section of roadway on I-405. Construction closures affecting I-405 traffic in Kirkland the week of July 20 - 27 include:
I-405 Mainline
- Saturday and Sunday, crews will close two northbound lanes between NE 85th and NE 116th streets around the clock from 5 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday. Three lanes will remain open to traffic. WSDOT traffic engineers predict lengthy northbound backups, with the worst congestion between noon and 7 p.m.
- Friday and Sunday nights, crews will close up to four northbound I-405 lanes between NE 85th and NE 116th streets from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night to stripe lanes. The first lane will close at 9 p.m. with up to three lanes closed by midnight. At least one lane will remain open to traffic.
- Sunday through Friday, expect daily closures of the far right northbound lane between NE 85th Street and NE 116th Street from 9 p.m. to 1 p.m. each following day to install signs and assess pavement conditions.
- Monday through Thursday nights, crews will close up to three lanes in each direction from NE 85th Street to NE 116th Street to install signs and assess pavement conditions. Northbound, the first lane will close at 9 p.m. each night with up to three lanes closed by midnight. All northbound lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. each following morning. Southbound, crews will close the first lane at 7 p.m. each night with up to three lanes closed by 11 p.m. All southbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each following morning.
- Expect daily closures of the northbound and southbound HOV lanes except during rush hours while crews work on the new HOV ramps north of the NE 128th Street bridge.
- Expect daily closures of the far right southbound lane except during rush hours while crews stripe pavement, and install signs.
I-405/NE 85th Street Interchange
- Friday and Sunday nights, crews will close the northbound on-ramp from eastbound and westbound NE 85th Street from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. each following morning to stripe lanes. A signed detour will be in place.
I-405/NE 116th Street Interchange
- Friday and Sunday nights, crews will close the northbound off-ramp to NE 116th Street from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. each following morning to stripe lanes. A signed detour will be in place.
I-405/NE 124th Street Interchange
- Monday through Thursday nights, crews will close the northbound off-ramp to NE 124th Street from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to install lights and cameras, and reconstruct the shoulder. A signed detour will be in place.
Kirkland streets affected by I-405 construction
