Paving Crews Finish Ahead of Schedule
NORTH BEND - SR 202 has a shiny new black top, and drivers have a safer, smoother ride from Fall City to North Bend. Paving crews working for WSDOT successfully delivered the improved roadway six days ahead of schedule.
“We have a great product from our contractor, Watson Asphalt Paving Company,” said Project Engineer Dave Lindberg. "Not only is the work excellent, they managed their schedule very efficiently and finished early,” he said.
Crews began paving 4.5 miles of SR 202 between Fall City and North Bend on May 14, 2007. In addition, they resurfaced three bridges and installed centerline rumble strips and guardrails to increase safety for drivers. All of the improvements spanned eight miles of SR 202. They finished the work on July 11.
The two lane highway was reduced to one lane of alternating traffic on Mondays through Fridays, generally between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.
"Our contractor worked well with the local communities. They minimized traffic disruptions by working outside of peak hours whenever possible, and used flaggers to get residents into and out of their driveways." said Lindberg
This $2.4 million project addressed deteriorating pavement on the highway and failing expansion over three bridges on SR 202. For more information, please visit: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR202/SR203NorthBendWay/
