CHEHALIS – Join the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and Scarsella Brothers, Inc. at a “Bridge Breaking” celebration scheduled for 2 p.m. July 3. The event celebrates the start of construction for the I-5, Rush Road to 13th Street Project. The “Bridge Breaking” event will take place at the LaBree Bridge, which crosses over I-5; this is the location of a future demolition and construction of a new interchange.

Through this project, four miles of I-5 in northern Lewis County will be widened, from two to three lanes in each direction. In addition, a new interchange will be constructed at LaBree Road. Construction begins in July, and is expected to be complete in late 2009.

This project is the first of several with the goal of relieving congestion, improving freight mobility, economic development and safety through the I-5 corridor. As a result of this project and several others, 18 miles of I-5 will be widened between Rush Road (exit 72) and Maytown (exit 95).

The public can learn more about this project at an open house scheduled for June 28, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at WSDOT’s Chehalis Area Engineering Office, located at 1411 Rush Road in Chehalis. At the open house, the public will be able to view displays and talk to staff about the project construction. There will be no formal presentations, so the public is welcome to stop by any time. The open house will provide an opportunity for the public to learn more about the project and expected traffic impacts.
