CHEHALIS – An open house for the upcoming I-5, Rush Road to 13th Street Project will take place June 28, announced the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The public is invited to join the project team at an open house from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at WSDOT’s Chehalis Area Engineering Office, located at 1411 Rush Road in Chehalis.
At the open house, the public will be able to view displays and talk to staff about the project construction, which is set to begin just after the 4th of July holiday. There will be no formal presentations, so the public is welcome to stop by any time between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The open house will provide an opportunity for the public to learn more about the project and expected traffic impacts.
An opportunity to celebrate the start of construction will take place Tuesday, July 3 at a “Bridge Breaking” ceremony. At 2 p.m. in the afternoon, the project team and contractor will break ground on this project at the I-5, LaBree overpass. The public is invited to attend the event.
Through this project, four miles of I-5 will be widened, from two to three lanes in each direction. In addition, a new interchange will be constructed at LaBree Road. Construction begins in July, and is expected to be complete in late 2009.
This project is the first stage of several with the goal of relieving congestion, improving freight mobility, economic development and safety through the I-5 corridor. As a result of this project and two others -- Mellen to Grand Mound and Grand Mound to Maytown, 18 miles of I-5 will be widened.
For more information about this project, please contact WSDOT’s Chehalis Area Engineering Office by phone (866) 713-2412), by e-mail (swChehalis@wsdot.wa.gov), or visit the project Web page at: www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i5/RushRd13thSt.
