REDMOND–WSDOT crews are gearing up for a project that will improve the westbound SR 520 off-ramps at NE 51st Street and 148th Avenue NE later this summer. Before construction begins, WSDOT geotechnical crews must close the NE 51st Street ramp for overnight drilling and soil testing.
- Wednesday, May 16 - Crews will close the westbound SR 520 off-ramp to NE 51st Street between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following morning to test for suitable soil beneath the roadway. We will detour drivers to the NE 40th Street exit.
Beginning mid summer 2007, crews will repair and pave two westbound SR 520 off-ramps at NE 51st Street and 148th Avenue NE. Depending on the soil test results, this will require one or two weekend ramp closures. We will not schedule the ramp closures during the annual Seafair Hydroplane Race weekend. When the project wraps up in mid-August, drivers will have a safer, smoother ride. The estimated total project cost is $800,000.
