VANCOUVER – The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will hold an Access Hearing for the I-5, NE 134th Street Salmon Creek Interchange Project on May 23 at 6 p.m. The hearing will cover Phase 1 of the project, which will build a new partial interchange at I-5 and NE 139th Street, and make other improvements to ease congestion and improve safety in the area.
The hearing will be held at the WSDOT Southwest Region office, located at 11018 NE 51st Circle in Vancouver. The site is accessible to persons with disabilities. The public will have an opportunity to meet with the project team from 5 – 6 p.m., prior to the hearing. The Access Hearing will begin at 6:00 p.m. The Access Hearing is a formal process where the public can learn about access issues and access changes that will result from the project. The hearing will provide an opportunity for property owners with property affected by the new interchange to provide formal comment.
The I-5, NE 134th Street Salmon Creek Interchange Project has been developed to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety in the rapidly growing Salmon Creek area. Today, NE 134th Street is used for all east-west travel across I-5 and I-205, and it provides access to both freeways from the Salmon Creek area. The close proximity of traffic signals on NE 134th Street and high traffic volumes in the area create long delays, traffic back-ups and a high rate of accidents. The I-5, NE 134th Street Salmon Creek Interchange Project will help address these problems.
Public comments can be sent and project information may be reviewed and obtained prior to the Access Hearing, by contacting the project manager: Casey Liles, Vancouver Area Engineer, WSDOT, P.O. Box 1709, Vancouver WA 98668-1709; by e-mail SwVanc@wsdot.wa.gov; by telephone (360) 905-1537; or by fax (360) 905–1533.
