SEATTLE – Two new video simulations illustrating how the SR 520 Evergreen Point floating bridge could fail during a catastrophic windstorm or earthquake are now available on YouTube.com.

Two separate video simulations show how the bridge could react during a catastrophic windstorm or earthquake event. The videos are intended to help the public understand the real catastrophic failure risks facing the SR 520 Bridge and its approaches.

The public may link directly to the videos from the project status box of the SR 520 Project Web site, or perform a search for “WSDOT 520 Bridge” on YouTube.com.

Link to the videos from the SR 520 Project site or call the project office at 206-770-3566

DVD copies of the video simulations are available to the media upon request.

The current SR 520 corridor will be replaced with a new 6-Lane facility. The 6-Lane alternative will create a seismically sound and safe new Portage Bay Bridge and Evergreen Point Floating Bridge with full shoulders, and a bike and pedestrian path through the entire project corridor. The floating bridge pontoons will be large enough to support future high capacity transit (HCT).
