SEATTLE - Washington State Ferries will resume sailing to Sidney, British Columbia on Sunday, April 1, after a 12-week winter hiatus. To celebrate the reopening of the route, the ferry system, the City of Anacortes, the Anacortes and Sidney Sister Cities Association, and the Sidney Business Association will be hosting a day of celebration.
The informal day long event will begin on the ferry departing Anacortes at 7:45 a.m., with appearances by Alex Young, a local artist known for his ferry art and by Steven J. Pickens, a local author known for his book Ferries of Puget Sound. WSF Licensed Deck Officer, Brandon Moser, will also be on hand with many historical facts on the ferries and their routes. Copies of the poster and book will be on sale the day of the event through the galley concessionaire, Olympic Cascades.
The public is invited to be part of the celebration and if walking on the ferry out of Anacortes, should expect to pay $15.60 for one-way. All attendees wishing to return to Anacortes on the same day will have to disembark at Sidney to go through Canadian customs and immigration and then purchase a return ticket for $15.60.
Upon arrival at Sidney, there will be a very informal gathering to mark the return of the Anacortes/Sidney route. Joining the gathering will be an RCMP Mountie in Red Surge Dress, the Sidney Town Crier, the Sidney Ambassadors and a representative from the Sidney Summer Market, as well as local business owners and citizens from both sides of the border.
As a U.S. citizen you will need to provide any one of the following as proof of your citizenship:
