GIG HARBOR – From noon on Monday, April 2, to noon on Wednesday, April 4, the Washington State Department of Transportation will test lights that are mounted on the electronic toll gantries that span eastbound State Route 16 at the new toll plaza. The lights are designed to operate in conjunction with the photo enforcement system mounted on the same gantries. During the light test, crews will check the brightness of the lights, their angles and other details to ensure they will work properly when toll collection begins later this summer.

To date, eastbound SR 16 motorists have become accustomed to lights illuminating the toll plaza and the manual toll booth area. The lights that will be tested illuminate the three mainline highway lanes and the area will be significantly brighter, especially during night hours. WSDOT will activate a highway-advisory-system (HAR) message and use portable changeable message signs to alert motorists of the test as they approach the area. The HAR message can be found by tuning a car radio to 1520 AM in the vicinity of the bridge.
