BREMERTON – The Manette Bridge replacement project is the subject of a WSDOT-hosted open house scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 at the Manette Senior Center, 1140 Nipsic Ave.

WSDOT staff will share design plans and displays, answer citizens’ questions, and conduct a survey to gauge the public’s interest in paying to upgrade the new bridge’s aesthetic elements.

Original design plans are scaled back due to significant increases in construction costs and stricter environmental guidelines. These factors increased the estimated cost of replacing the structurally-deficient, 77-year-old bridge from $28 million in 2001 to about $65 million today.

The latest bridge design does include arch bridge deck girders and decorative arches between bridge columns remain under consideration for the replacement bridge. WSDOT will support any effort by the community to secure additional funding for aesthetic enhancements. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2010.
