ABERDEEN – WSDOT’s contractor, Advanced American Construction, will close the US 12 Heron Street Bridge for 13 days beginning Saturday, March 24. The total bridge closure is necessary to allow crews to upgrade the bridge’s mechanical and electrical systems.
During the closure, eastbound drivers will use the Wishkah River Bridge to cross the Wishkah River. The Wishkah River Bridge (normally a two-lane westbound-only bridge), will be open to two-way traffic throughout the Heron Bridge closure.
Cutting capacity in half across the Wishkah River will add to traffic congestion through Aberdeen. Drivers are advised to plan ahead for delays during the March 24 to April 6 bridge closure.
The repair and retrofit project renovates the mechanical and electrical systems of the bridge’s movable swing span. The $813,000 project also includes earthquake-safety upgrades.
The Heron Street Bridge was built in 1949 and carries 15,000 vehicles a day.
Drivers can call 5-1-1 or visit http://wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/ for road and traffic updates.
