EVERETT – Nighttime drivers on Interstate 5 through Everett will need to plan a little extra time in their trips on the night of March 30. Crews working for WSDOT will be demolishing the Cascade View Bridge in Everett over I-5. The Cascade View Bridge is located just south of 41st Street in Everett.

  • Starting at 11:59 p.m. Friday night March 23 until 8 a.m. the following morning, WSDOT will close northbound I-5 at 41st Street. Drivers will detour around the closure by exiting at Broadway, turning right on Everett Ave., then reentering the freeway using the northbound on-ramp from Everett Ave.

Crews need to demolish the Cascade View Bridge to make room for improvements to the 41st St. interchange and the new HOV lanes. By the end of this summer WSDOT will open a new on-ramp to southbound I-5 from 41st St. where the west side of the Cascade View Bridge now stands.

Looking Ahead

On the weekend of March 30 - April 2 WSDOT plan to close the southbound I-5 exit to 41st Street while crews finish re-building the ramp. When the ramp opens on Monday morning, drivers will be able to turn left onto 41st for the first time since the bridge opened on February 19. Three out of the four exit and on-ramps of the 41st Street interchange will be complete. The on-ramp from 41st St. to southbound I-5 is scheduled to be open in summer or fall of 2007.

  • Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, March 30 until 5 a.m. Monday, April 2 the southbound I-5 exit to 41st Street in Everett will be closed. The 41st Street Bridge and up to two lanes of southbound I-5 will also be closed intermittently at night over the weekend. All lanes of southbound I-5, the ramp to 41st and the bridge will be open by 5 a.m. Monday morning.

The 41st St. interchange improvements are one part of a $260 million dollar project to improve the flow of traffic through the city of Everett. By summer 2008, drivers will have new HOV lanes in each direction that run from just south of SR 526 to just south of the Snohomish River Bridge. Drivers will also have additional general purpose lane in each direction between 41st St. to US 2.
