ABERDEEN – A 10-day closure of the Heron Street Bridge will be scheduled, as soon as next week, to allow crews to upgrade the bridge’s mechanical and electrical systems.
The exact date of the closure has yet to be determined, though it will be known within the next few days. WSDOT will release that information as soon as it becomes available.
The Heron Street Bridge is used by eastbound drivers to cross the Wishkah River. While the Heron Street Bridge is closed, the Wishkah River Bridge (normally a two-lane westbound-only bridge) will be open to two-way traffic.
Cutting capacity in half across the Wishkah River will add to traffic congestion through town. Drivers are advised to plan ahead for delays during the bridge closure.
The repair and retrofit project will renovate the mechanical and electrical systems of the bridge’s movable swing span. The $813,000 project also includes earthquake-safety upgrades and bridge deck improvements that will create a smoother ride and reduce maintenance costs.
The Heron Street Bridge was built in 1949 and carries 15,000 vehicles a day.
Drivers can call 5-1-1 or visit http://wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/ for road and traffic updates.
