VANCOUVER – An opportunity for the public to learn more about the Vancouver Rail Bypass – West 39th Street Bridge Project will take place February 27, announced the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The public is invited to join the project team at the Open House from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the WSDOT Main Street Conference Room, located at 4100 Main Street in Vancouver.
The open house will focus primarily on the West 39th Street Bridge portion of the project. At the open house, the public will be able to view the current design plans for the bridge and talk to staff about the project. There will be no formal presentations, so the public is welcome to stop by anytime between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The Vancouver Rail Bypass – West 39th Street Bridge Project will add new bypass tracks in the Vancouver rail yard, helping to alleviate congestion in the rail yard. The project will also construct a vehicle/pedestrian/bicycle bridge over the railroad tracks on West 39th Street, enhancing safety at the crossing, and providing greater connectivity to the neighborhoods east and west of Fruit Valley Road.
Construction in the rail yard is scheduled to begin in late 2007. Construction on the West 39th Street Bridge is scheduled to begin in spring 2008 and be complete in 2010. The rail portion of the project is scheduled for completion in 2011.
For more information about this project, please contact Mike Clark, WSDOT Engineering Services Manager by phone (360) 905-2110, by e-mail (clarkm@wsdot.wa.gov), or visit the project Web page at: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/Rail/PNWRC_Vancouver/.
